Biography
...is a writer of essays, novels, plays and poetry. As an essayist, he is the writer of the Mind Check blog, which was started in early 2007 and which usually continues with a posting frequency of about every two weeks. (http://mindcheck.blogspot.com)

His fiction includes Love Quest, a novel written as a memoir and completed in 2005, Escape from Storm, and PR. As a playwright, Saft is the author of the full length plays The Business, The Hot Rocks Rebellion and A Gift for Bear and the one act play The Artist In Search Of A Home. In 1990 Saft founded New Works Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, which was devoted to putting on new plays. New Works remained in operation until 1995.

As a poet, Saft has written over a hundred poems, many of which he has presented in public readings. Saft’s poetry is a combination of blank verse, free verse and rhyming pieces, some of which were written to be performed with music. His first published book of poetry, entitled I Will Mean, was revised in 2005 and is still available. (http://www.iwillmeanpoetry.com)

Among his other poetry is a story piece done in mock epic style pertaining to environmental issues, entitled Murdoch McLoon And His Windmill Boat, An Epic For Our Time. The writer is pleased to announce still another book of poetry entitled City Above The Sea, a collection including a rhyming piece on the assassinations of the 1960s called "Forty Years Come And Gone." Both Murdoch McLoon and City Above The Sea are now available for purchase online. Saft has given poetry readings in Virginia, Maine, Vermont, California, Texas, New Jersey, New York, and Washington DC, in some cases to the accompaniment of a jazz band.

Born in Philadelphia on April 11, 1939, Saft now resides in southwest Virginia. He holds degrees from Lafayette College (B.A. in English) and Yale University (M.A. in English). For many years, he was employed by The George Washington University, Washington DC, where he taught and served as an administrator.  He is married to the former Harriet Rose Grigsby.
